The team of Tish Orr, Meg O'Donnell, Connie Dollinger, and Nicole Losch recently represented the GMCC at the Grand National Curling Club's 2007 Women's Challenge (5yr. & under) in Belfast Maine. Not only did they represent the GMCC, but they made it to the finals of the C Event! In so doing, they became the first GMCC team to be piped onto the ice! The game was tied going into the 8th end with Team Broomstones having the hammer. GMCC was unable to steal, and the final score was 8-7 Broomstones. Regardless, we are incredibly proud of this team for what it accomplished and the way in which it represented the GMCC. Just wait 'til next year!
Check out these Pictures!
On the weekend of February 10th, the GMCC had two teams at the Francis Dykes Memorial Bonspiel in Rochester, NY. Congrats
to both teams for making it to the semi-finals!
GMCC Team #1, pictured at right (click for larger picture) consisted of (L to R): Scot Rose (2nd), Thom Smith (Vice), Paul Nelson (Skip) and Mike Muzzy (Lead). GMCC Team #2 was Mitch DeHond (Lead), Rich Dauphin (2nd), Rob Allen (Vice) and Mike Sitko (Skip).
Scot Rose sent along this report below on the weekend's activity.
Hello fellow curlers,
I just wanted to let everyone know that Green Mountain was well represented at the Francis Dykes Memorial Bonspiel
in Rochester, NY. Both teams made it to semifinal games on Sunday. We had a great time, and more curling in then
we could shake a broom at. We made some friends, drank too much, and slept too little. We also learned a
little luck can go a long way.
I know my team learned quite a bit in our long weekend. We are all better players now. One thing this tournament hammered home was the spirit of curling. Teams we beat were rooting for us throughout the tournament, and we found ourselves rooting for teams that beat us. Our most fun game was a semi-final game we lost, but both teams played well, and compliments were handed out on all of the great shots.
The schedule was crazy with 48 teams. Games started at 7 AM, and the last game started at 11 PM. We were garunteed three games, and most teams were eliminated after two losses.
For those of you who want to see how we did:
Green Mountain 1 was 3-3, and Green Mountain 2 was 4-3. We got an extra loss because we made it to the semifinals. Green Mountain was 4-0 against the home teams, so we had some good natured resentment from the event coordinator. The tournament was much more fun with two teams, which meant we had another team to cheer on when we weren't playing. Unfortunately, Rich and gang will not be able to play in this one next year, so we need to get another team together of 5 and under curlers.
We had a lot of fun this past week. My body is mostly healed from the sweeping and lack of sleep. We will defintitely be doing more of these in the future. Hope some of you can join us.
- Scot Rose

The Green Mountain Curling Club is a group of curling players and fans bringing curling into the state of Vermont. In previous years, we curled at the Border Curling Club just over the border in Stanstead, Quebec, but in 2006 we were very pleased to be bringing curling to the CREW ice arena in Morrisville, VT! Now we are back for our second season with more sheets, more stones, more teams and are looking forward to an even stronger year of curling in Vermont!
Participation in our monthly "Learn To Curl" clinics is open to anyone. No experience is necessary - just an interest in learning and playing the game. Cost for the clinic is $25, which can be applied toward your membership if you decide to join the GMCC.
If you would like to become a member of the GMCC, current rates are $75/season with membership giving you the ability to participate in GMCC activities, free equipment rental and, if necessary, a Learn To Curl clinic. PLEASE FILL OUT OUR MEMBERSHIP FORM to join.
To play in our Saturday morning games, you must be a member and then there is a small $10/game fee to cover the cost of the ice time.
If you have questions about the GMCC in general, please contact gmccwebmaster@gmail.com.
